At Classic Shapewear, we know that shaping garments are a wise investment, but they’re an investment nonetheless. That’s why it’s crucial to keep your shapewear looking and performing its best. When it comes to caring for these delicate garments, following a few general guidelines will greatly extend your collection’s overall longevity and effectiveness. We’re taking a look at some of the best suggestions for laundering and storing your shaping attire so that you can fittingly keep your undergarments in great “shape.”
The key to washing your shapewear is all about striking the right balance. You’ll have to wash these garments fairly regularly in order to maintain their shapes. If you keep wearing a garment without doing so, the material will remain stretched out and won’t provide you with the same results that it did initially. Aim to launder each piece after wearing it one to three times, and layer undergarments beneath your shapewear to extend the time between laundry sessions.
When you do wash your shapewear, either wash it by hand or place it inside a lingerie bag or protector. These handy devices allow soap and water to flow to the garment with a protective outer layer that prevents snags and tears. If you use this method, set your washing machine on the gentle cycle using cold water for best results, and be sure to avoid overloading the bag. Items need to move freely in order to get properly cleaned. Always avoid chlorine bleach (it can destroy elastic), and never use hot water.
Underwire and gel-padded items should usually be washed by hand, because washing machines can prove too destructive for their delicate builds. Underwires may end up jutting out of the fabric, while gel fillers can become punctured and leak as a result. When hand washing, be sure to use warm water and a mild shampoo (like our Coquette Lingerie Wash) and avoid twisting or wringing the garment excessively.
As a general rule of thumb, avoid putting your shaping garments in the dryer. Excessive heat can damage the latex and elastic, and the last thing you want to do to your new shaper is ruin its shape. Lay these garments flat to dry instead, or hang them if you wish. While it is typically best to allow these delicate pieces to air dry, it is acceptable to use your dryer’s gentle cycle on the coolest setting if you’re short on time.
In order to best retain each garment’s shape, the best place to store your shapewear is in an enclosed drawer or closet cabinet. Hanging garments for extended periods of time tends to put strain on the straps and elastic, which can stretch them out. Since several types of shapers have hook-and-eye closures and zippers, these garments are best kept separated to avoid any snags or rips. Smaller items like bras and shaping panties can be folded into drawer divider compartments for a neat and tidy presentation. Full-length body shapers, shaping slips and bustiers are best kept in their natural shape, so avoid folding these if you can. Instead, lay them inside a drawer in a flat position.

Certainly no stranger to the spotlight, Kim Kardashian recently made waves when she “revealed” her favorite cleavage-enhancing trick: gaffer’s tape! While we’ll be the first to say that Kim always looks incredible, the thought of ripping tape off your chest is more than a little unpleasant. Before you scout the local hardware store for a roll of your own, why not consider some far less painful alternatives? We’re taking a look at some bra solutions with major cleavage-enhancing benefits (and zero discomfort).
One of the most versatile ways to enhance your cleavage is via adhesive bras. These designs are made for multiple styling possibilities, from backless dresses and strapless bodices to garments with intricate cut-outs. They’re basically mimicking Kim’s tape trick with their customizable adhesion, but they’re specifically built for adhering to delicate skin. Position them as you wish in order to best flatter your curves.
Breast enhancers do more than just add volume to the bust. They also round out its shape, lift breasts with comfortable support and boost the look of cleavage. Simply insert a gel or padded enhancer into your bra for discreet wear. These simple pieces are a great addition to your favorite bra or bralette and can help you customize your existing lingerie collection.
The plunge design goes above and beyond (and below) the traditional bra, and that’s ideal when it comes to cleavage. Regular bras only show the top portion of the bust, but a plunge bra features a deeper center that showcases more of the cleavage line. A halter neck further amplifies this effect by pushing the breasts closer together, and it’s the perfect solution for accommodating low-cut dresses and blouses with maximum support.
Classic Push-Up Bras
The traditional push-up bra is a classic for a reason: It works! Push-up styles are designed to lift and separate your breasts for flattering cleavage and a fuller-looking bust overall. These bras offer various amounts of padding, so you can choose just the right amount to suit your sizing needs. Stock up on these essential styles for regular wear, but be sure to keep a nude push-up bra on hand for versatile and discreet wear beneath any attire.
So tell us, ladies… have you considered trying out Kim Kardashian’s tape trick yourself, or do you prefer taking less painful measures to enhance your bust? Share your own cleavage-boosting tips and tricks in the comments section below!
It’s the classic lingerie question: Should you regularly sleep in your bra, or should you forego a nighttime bra entirely? A new line of sleep bras is awakening this age-old debate, and we’re taking a look at the science and technology behind its interesting claims and innovative design.
Renowned plastic surgeon Randal Haworth noticed over the course of his career that his clients who regularly slept in bras had perkier, firmer breasts than those who slept without them. In addition, nightly bra wearers showed less wrinkling on their décolletage areas. This discovery led Dr. Haworth to create a sleep bra that would provide maximum support to breast tissue in order to prevent sagging and unsightly lines.
To understand why a nighttime bra is necessary, it’s important to look at what happens to breasts during the sleep cycle. Whether you’re a side sleeper or prefer to lie on your back, breasts will fall into certain positions during sleep that can create unwanted sagging. For instance, back sleepers’ breasts will fall to the sides, therefore stretching out the breast tissue and altering its shape over time. Side sleepers’ top breasts will sag onto their bottom breast, resulting in distortion and wrinkles. Because of these effects, Dr. Haworth decided to design a sleep bra that would essentially support each individual breast with sling construction.
At Classic Shapewear, we’re pleased to carry Dr. Haworth’s innovative NightLift collection. Specifically designed for nighttime use, these styles provide ample support to ligaments and connective tissue while cradling the breast to retain its shape. Comfortably constructed with no underwires, these bras used multi-layered, molded construction to stabilize the breast area throughout the night. Even better, this stabilization protects against unwanted lines and wrinkles along the décolletage. J-hooks further allow for customization as you please.
Dr. Haworth even suggests that with regular use, his sleep bra can prevent the need for a future breast lift – and that says something coming from a plastic surgeon! “Prevention is what the NightLift does most effectively,” he says. “If you’re sagging a little, our bra can’t tighten tissue that’s already stretched, but it can certainly help prevent it from further stretching and sagging.”
What are your thoughts on Dr. Haworth’s NightLift collectiion and the science behind it? Do you plan to change your nighttime habits, or are you already committed to wearing a bra around the clock? Keep the conversation going in the comments section below!

In Hollywood, it’s no secret that looking like a million dollars is just part of every A-lister’s job. Celebrities are known for their enviable figures, and while they certainly spend time working out and watching what they eat, they also know that how you dress can play a huge role in how you look. For many stars, shapewear is an essential part of their daily wardrobes, helping to streamline their physiques and get them camera-ready. We’re taking a look at some celebrity shapewear sightings and how these innovative shapers can efficiently transform your body.
When you think of shapewear, you likely picture shaping briefs first. These comfy styles are similar to biker shorts, and they help to smooth and tighten the lower body. Most women, celebrities included, utilize nude-colored shapers, which tend to remain discreet (although accidents do happen, as evidenced above!) Not only do these styles keep dreaded muffin top rolls at bay, but they also cinch the midriff and lower abs.
Celebrities regularly don daring dresses at major events, and one of the most eye-catching styles is a gown with a plunging neckline. To prevent any wardrobe malfunctions, it’s wise to use bra solutions to keep the gown adhered to your body strategically. Consider double-sided tape, breast petals and plunge bras to best showcase this look without worrying about exposing too much. If you’re opting for a back-baring style instead, look for backless bras and shapers that keep you supported without a visible band along the back.
Whether it’s all natural or boosted with the right curve-enhancing shapewear, an ample derriere greatly enhances an hourglass figure. Padded underwear is a smart way to smooth, lift and shape your backside to perfection, much like the stars’ above. Look for panties with built-in padding to add curves, or utilize lifting shapers with cut-outs at the buttocks for a perkier rear view.
Another trend that celebrities swear by to give them their trim midsections is waist training. The process uses a standard corset or waist cincher to apply compression to the abs, subsequently tightening and firming the area. In fact, several actresses have sworn by this method to help them regain their pre-baby figures.

Jessica Alba, Kourtney Kardashian, Cate Blanchett and Brooke Burke are just a few celebrities to praise the benefits of post-pregnancy shapewear. Blanchett reported that she stocked up on Spanx after the birth of her child, while Alba committed to wearing shapers for months after she gave birth (a process that she called “sweaty, but worth it.”) Kardashian and Burke loved their shaping results so much that they both created their own shapewear designs for postpartum wear.
“The idea of a bra meant to be worn only while sleeping is kind of fascinating to me. I know some friends who are never braless, whether it’s daytime or 3:30 A.M. and they’re curled up under the comforter, but I’m a bit more hippie than that (if an outfit ever allows me to go without one, I’m taking full advantage of the opportunity). The Nightlift bra, created by plastic surgeon Dr. Randal Haworth, is constructed so breasts stay up and in during sleeping and is thought to prevent sagging and drooping over time.
Dr. Haworth explained the bra as “a cradle” to me and said the just-for-bed style is different from your everyday one because it’s meant to deal with horizontal, not vertical, gravity. “When lying on your back or side, gravity exerts a sideways or lateral pull on the breasts that’s different than the vertical pull in the standing position.” The bra looks a lot like every other one in my drawer, with the most notable exception being two additional straps that are secured at the inside of each cup.
I thought I’d hate feeling constrained by the bra while sleeping, but I was happily surprised by how comfortable it was. There are no underwires, and I wasn’t pinched or overly compressed in any way. It rode up much higher in the back than a normal bra should, which I noticed immediately, but it didn’t feel bad or incorrect.
I’m not particularly busty but have noticed how odd my breasts look when sleeping or lying on my side—the top one roundly slopes toward the bed while the one closest kind of puddles there (gross imagery, I know). The Nightlift definitely avoided the same situation and kept both of my ladies up and, more or less, where they are when I’m standing or sitting. Per Dr. Haworth, though, it’s larger-chested ladies who will benefit the most from the extra evening layer.
“When your breasts are large enough to fall off your rib cage as you lie on your back is the best time to consider sleeping in a bra,” he said, telling me it’s size, not age, that mandates when you’d ideally start wearing a sleeping bra. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Our daily routines are concerned with prevention, whether it’s brushing our teeth, exercising, or eating correctly. Just like missing a day of exercise, sleeping a night or two without the bra will have little impact upon the overall benefit if it’s worn on a regular basis.”
Some people around the office were surprised by how sexy it looked, and I had the same reaction when I unboxed mine. I’d gone from being nervous it’d be too embarrassing to wear around the husband to wondering if he’d actually be into the (tasteful) bondage feel.

It’s that time of year again! The holidays are upon us, and that means plenty of opportunities to dress up for all those special events and family gatherings on your calendar. While it’s tempting to focus solely on finding pretty cocktail dresses and elegant separates, you don’t want to overlook the one piece that makes every other item in your closet look better: shapewear! Before you start sending out those RSVPs, it’s time to shop for the perfect holiday shapewear essentials.
The last thing you want to do at a social gathering is fight with shapewear that rides up, slips down or cuts off your air supply. Fortunately, bodysuits and body shapers offer a wonderful alternative to traditional corsets, and their slimming construction is as comfy as a fitted tank top. A nude style with a low or strapless neckline is a must-have for looking sleek and smooth in any ensemble. Bodysuits with higher necklines can easily double as layering tanks when you need a little extra coverage beneath a low-cut blouse, and a nude shade adds discreet coverage beneath sheer designs. Stock up on different necklines to accommodate multiple outfits, and look for a range of bottoms, as well. Bodysuits with thongs, shaping briefs and capri-length legs can all work wonders under a variety of hemlines and cuts.
One of the top concerns with shapewear is how it appears once your clothes are off. Most women want the option of having appealing, pretty shapewear styles instead of being limited with only head-to-toe nude body shapers. Consider sexy alternatives such as corsets, shaping slips, garter belts and hosiery. These elegant pieces boost your confidence and help to make shapewear a luxurious component of your daily style.
One-piece shapers are wonderfully versatile, but separates can truly boost your wearing options. Look for strapless bras, backless torsolettes and longline bras with deep v necklines to help flatter any gown. Pair them with matching shapewear panties, briefs or slips for a coordinating and flattering duo.
Double Duty Pieces
Some innovative shaping solutions have officially transformed shapewear into everyday wear! Look for bodysuits that double as basics or intricate tops that are made for fancy occasions. Pair these with everything from satin maxi skirts and sequin trousers to classic high-waisted jeans for ultimate figure flattery and styling versatility.
Following these basic guidelines will help you look your best over the holidays while still enjoying the holiday spirit.
